About Jan

Jan Cehn is a Board Certified Diplomate and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work from Smith College. Since attaining her degree, her experience has included being an Associate Clinical Professor and the social work supervisor on the inpatient adolescent unit at UCSF/Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute. While there, she began and co-led a Family Therapy Seminar for psychiatry residents, social work and psychology interns, and nursing staff. She assessed new patients and their families for admission, worked individually with teens and their families, did liaison work with the community, and was a member of the supervisory team which included the director and asst. director of the unit, the psychologist and head nurse.

Following her time at UCSF, she was the Director of Child and Adolescent Services at Jewish Family and Children’s Services. In that position she provided administrative and clinical supervision to Child therapists in 5 offices in the bay area. Jan consulted to several schools, gave parenting workshops and talks on a variety of subjects related to child and adolescent issues and led clinical case seminars for staff and trainees.

In 1991 she began working fulltime in her private practice and in 1993 received certification in beginning and advanced EMDR training, a technique that has been proven effective for many individuals who have experienced trauma.

Her specific areas of interest are adolescence, adoption (families of adoption and birth mothers), trauma, depression, anxiety, and body image issues.

In her practice Jan see teens, couples, families, adults and seniors and has worked with a diverse range of couples and families. Jan consults and has consulted to many agencies, schools, and professionals.
